Chevy Cobalt SS

The Chevy Cobalt SS has been hailed as the best in Chevrolet’s Cobalt series of cars. Though it has its limitations, the inexpensive price tag that the car comes with makes it a good choice for people who wish to own a simple sports car. The car is actually a direct improvement of the existing Chevy Cobalt cars. It boasts of some additional features, the most notable of them being the three different engines of the inline-4 Ecotec type. The car’s engine is built on the already-successful platform of the GM Delta.

When the Chevy Cobalt SS was launched, it was introduced with a 2.0 L engine which had a power of 205 horsepower. This was in 2004, during the introduction of the engine. The car has seen improvements along the way. The 2006 model had an option for both manual and automatic transmission and boasted of a 2.4 L engine. The power was increased too, up to 260 horsepower, including the engine in the category of turbocharger engines. More improvements were seen in the 2008 and the 2009 versions of the vehicle.

One of the most important aspects for Chevrolet about their Cobalt SS was that it allowed them to come above the negative reviews that their previous vehicle, the Chevrolet Cavalier got. This vehicle was almost universally panned and the Chevy Cobalt series, especially the Chevy Cobalt SS, redeemed that with the positive reviews that it garnered. Performance-wise, the Chevy Cobalt SS is eons ahead of the Cavalier. The Cavalier was built on a J platform, which has become outdated now. The engine capacity and power of the Chevy Cobalt SS significantly superseded that of the Cavalier, thus helping Chevrolet to improve its image yet again. One of the aspects of the Chevy Cobalt SS that got the largest amount of praise was the power-train of the vehicle, mainly that in the turbocharged engines.

The Chevy Cobalt SS has a body style of a 2-door coupe or a 4-door sedan. Therefore, it is placed in the small car category and the sports compact class. It has three different versions according to the transmission that is used in it. These versions are a 5 speed transmission with Saab F35 (manual), a 5 speed transmission with Getrag F23 (manual) and a 4 speed transmission with 4T45 (automatic). Thus, two of its versions have a manual transmission and one version has an automatic transmission.

There are three main models of the Chevy Cobalt SS available. The first version was a 2.4 L engine version which was only available as a supercharged coupe. This was the first to be launched. The improved version contained a 2.4 L LE5 engine which was noted for being naturally aspirated. The third version was the 2.0 L LNF turbocharged engine. This is now available as both a coupe and a sedan.

For those planning to purchase the Chevy Cobalt SS, the good news is that it is a cheaper car than others in its genre and that it is durable in terms of its engine. Small repairs and replacements of its accessories may be frequent, but all in all, the car has commendable reviews from its users.
